The Pirates have recently talked to the Mets about acquiring 1B Ike Davis, a source said (Sawchik, Dec. 17).
Sandy Alderson said Tuesday that he has continued talking with teams about Davis, though there is less interest today than at other points this winter.
The Pirates are looking to acquire a left-handed-hitting first baseman to complement 1B Gaby Sanchez (Olney). They are reportedly also interested in Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland (Heyman, Dec. 17). However, Brewers GM Doug Melvin recently said, last he checked, the Rangers were not trading Moreland (Haudricourt, Dec. 17). The Brewers have also reportedly shown interest in Davis.
In return for Davis, the Mets are said to be seeking for a hard-throwing pitching prospect, such as Nick Kingham (Perrotto, Dec. 17), who was Pittsburgh’s third-best pitching prospect, according to Baseball America. Alderson reportedly asked the Brewers for RHP Tyler Thornburg (McCalvy, Dec. 11, Duquette, Dec. 10), but he is set to be Milwaukee’s fifth starter (Haudricourt, Dec. 12).
