Sandy Alderson said that the Mets are not that actively engaged in trade discussions involving Ike Davis (DiComo, Jan.9 ).
Earlier this week, Brewers GM Doug Melvin said he was still talking with the Mets about Davis, but the two sides had yet to see eye-to-eye on a deal (MLB.com, Jan. 7).
“We’ve been told by a variety of clubs that what we’re asking is not unrealistic,” Alderson said (DiComo, Jan. 9). “But if they think they can get it or something else for less, that’s what they’re going to try to do. So be it. It’s not like we’re holding out for Babe Ruth.”
In an effort to get a pitching prospect for Davis, the Mets have been shot down when asking the Pirates for RHP Nick Kingham (Perrotto, Dec. 17), the Brewers for RHP Tyler Thornburg (McCalvy, Dec. 1) the O’s for LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (Encina, Jan. 4).
Alderson and Davis spoke at David Wright’s recent wedding and the GM said the first baseman is “in a good mood.”
